Running up the northern edge of the course the fourteenth is one of the most challenging of the par 4s. An uphill drive may set off straight from the sheltered tee but be blown in to the trees on the right - or even out of bounds - by the prevailing wind on the more exposed fairway. Aiming at or left of the marker post is essential to avoid this fate. The green, one of the smallest at West End, is tucked away in a corner of the course. Add in the fact that it is surrounded on three sides by trees and you see why so few people get on in two. This means most are left having to make a putt for par or worse. |
